Forging Line:

Hollow forging is a manufacturing process used to create hollowed-out components with complex shapes. In the case of F51 duplex steel, hollow forgings can be used to create various components like flanges, fittings, valves, and other parts used in critical applications.

The process of hollow forging generally involves the following steps:

Billet preparation: The initial step is to prepare a solid billet of F51 duplex steel. The billet is a cylindrical piece of metal that will be used as the starting material for forging.

Heating: The billet is heated to a suitable forging temperature to make it more malleable and easier to shape. The temperature used depends on the specific material and the desired properties of the final product.

Forging: The heated billet is then placed on a die and subjected to controlled deformation using mechanical pressure (such as hammering or pressing). The force applied shapes the billet into the desired hollow form. The process is done under high pressure to ensure proper grain flow and structural integrity.

Heat treatment: After the forging process, the component may undergo heat treatment to enhance its mechanical properties and reduce internal stresses.

Machining: Depending on the complexity of the desired shape and tolerances, the hollow forged component may undergo machining to achieve the final dimensions and surface finish.

Inspection and testing: Once the forging and any subsequent processes are complete, the components undergo rigorous inspection and testing to ensure they meet the required specifications and quality standards.

Duplex Stainless Steel: F51 duplex steel comprises a balanced microstructure of austenite and ferrite, providing outstanding mechanical properties and resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Hollow Forging Technology: The hollow forging process ensures precise and intricate shapes with enhanced strength-to-weight ratios, reducing overall weight and optimizing performance.

High Corrosion Resistance: F51 duplex steel offers exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and general corrosion in aggressive environments.

High Strength: These hollow forgings provide excellent tensile and yield strength, making them ideal for critical applications in harsh conditions.

Weldability: F51 duplex steel exhibits good weldability, allowing for ease of fabrication and assembly during production.

Versatility: The hollow forging technique enables the creation of complex components, including flanges, fittings, valves, and more, catering to diverse application requirements.

Enhanced Performance: The combination of duplex steel and hollow forging technology results in components with exceptional mechanical properties, ensuring optimal performance under challenging conditions.

Cost-Efficiency: The high strength-to-weight ratio of these hollow forgings reduces material usage and transportation costs while maintaining structural integrity.

Extended Service Life: The superior corrosion resistance of F51 duplex steel ensures longevity, reducing maintenance and replacement costs over the product's lifespan.

Wide Application Range: F51 hollow forgings are suitable for a variety of industries, enhancing their productivity and reliability in critical applications.

What is F51 steel equivalent to?

Duplex A182-F51 is equivalent to:- UNS31803† and DIN 1.4462 and it is similar to:- 329LN, SAF2205, Uranus 45N.

What is material grade F51?

F51 tensile and yield strength is higher than conventional austenitic or ferritic grades of stainless steel. It has good weldability and good formability. Duplex steels contain both ferritic and austenitic microstructures. They have a high chromium content and a moderate nickel content.

What is the hardness of ASTM A182 F51?

The material has high strength values. The minimum yield strength is 450MPa and the minimum tensile strength is 620MPa, with 25% minimum elongation and 290HB Brinell hardness.

What is the temperature range for A182 F51?

The design minimum temperature for ASTM A182 F51 without impact testing is -60°F [-51°C]. At moderately elevated temperature, this steel may develop embrittlement after servce, thus, the maximum design temperature is generally restricted to 600°F [315°C].

What is the difference between UNS S31803 and duplex 2205?

UNS S32205 is a nitrogen-enhanced version of UNS S31803. It offers higher strength and more excellent corrosion resistance than its predecessor, thanks to the addition of nitrogen. 2205 duplex stainless steel is composed of approximately 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5-6% nickel and nitrogen.

What is the process of tube forging?

Tube Forging, also referred to as upsetting, is a process that thickens the end of a steel tube after heating the tube and simultaneously holding the tube and driving the tube material onto itself.

What is hollow forging?

Hollow forged tubes originate from ingots which are preforged to large and heavy punched blanks (such as discs with hole, shown in the picture below). These blanks are extended in length by being forged over a mandrel. A mandrel is a long slightly conical forging tool.

What is a forging die?

Forging dies are usually made of high-alloy or tool steel. Dies must be impact- and wear-resistant, maintain strength at high temperatures, and have the ability to withstand cycles of rapid heating and cooling.

What is the difference between forging and die forging?

Die forging is another popular method of metalworking, but it takes place at much higher temperatures than hand forging does. This process requires the use of highly specialized machinery, as well as dies (or moulds), for forming the metal into the desired shape.

Why is forging stronger?

Due to the tight grain structure, a forging is mechanically stronger than a casting. Unlike castings, forgings are not susceptible to cavities, cold pour problems, porosity or shrinkage. Castings typically require more expensive alloys to achieve the high strength required for most fittings.
